The Macintosh, which earlier this year partnered with the American Lamb Board for a month long celebration of the struggling industry’s products, is making sheep meat the centerpiece of its first patio roast.
Starting Apr. 15, the Upper King restaurant will monthly host a family-style “Tuesday Roast” supper with beverage pairings. According to a press release, future editions of the event may be headed up by guest chefs.
This month, though, chef de cuisine Jacob Huder is roasting a whole lamb, which will be accompanied by a crudo, grilled venison and spring vegetables. Freehouse Brewery is providing the beer.
Dinner’s priced at $65 a person, and service starts at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call 789-4299.
Gary Shteyngart is not a food writer. He’s a novelist, and – with Tuesday’s release of Little Failure – a memoirist. But even if there aren’t baguettes and vodka bottles in every scene he stages, food is central to his work: As he told the New York Times in 2011, “I wander (New York City’s) streets — my mind attuned to the idea, ‘Must feed … must feed … must feed’ — but the wandering is really an excuse to look at the city and to reacquaint myself, consider how things are changing.”
During the outing recounted for the Times, Shteyngart polished off a Northern Chinese lamb burger; liang pi cold skin noodles; porchetta; trippa alla Romana and a vodka tonic.
The author is always eating: Judging from the press coverage of each of his books, his promotional schedule consists mainly of meeting reporters for Korean feasts and vodka sessions. Continue reading
The post-holiday restaurant lull usually produces a raft of good eating deals, but a new stay-and-dine promotion from Indigo Road and Charlestowne Hotels is pretty good even by January standards.
During January, the restaurant group and hotel management company are offering discounted downtown rooms which come with a $100 Indigo Road gift card, good at Oak Steakhouse, O-Ku, The Cocktail Club, The Macintosh or Indaco. The rates are slightly higher on weekends, and six nights are excluded from the promotion, but there are plenty of attractive arrangements available. For instance, $179 buys dinner and a weeknight room at the Andrew Pinckney Inn, The Elliott House Inn or King Charles Inn.
The French Quarter Inn and King Charles Inn are also participating.
